Gre Math Flashcards
Adding subtracting decimals
Lineup the decimal points
Multiplying decimals
Multiply the numbers. count the total number of places to the right of the decimal point to find the decimal point placement
dividing decimals
Move the decimal point in the dividing number to the right until the dividing number becomes an integer. Then do long division
58.345\3.21=5834.5\321
A product of a number and it’s reciprocal is….
1
3* 1/3 = 1
Converting a mixed number to an improper fraction
Multiply the whole number by the denominator of the fraction. Add the results of the numerator and place that value over the original denominator
3 2/5–> (3*5) + 2 –> 17/5
Multiplying fractions
Numerator times the numerator and denominator times the denominator
Dividing fractions
Multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction
Squares of numbers
The square will always be a positive number but square roots can be negative. 25, 5 or -5
When to add exponents
When multiplying the same base number raised any power, add the exponents
A^m * a^n = a^mn
(A^m)^n raising an exponential expression to a power
A^mn multiply the exponentand power
(Ab)^m
two different base members to a power
You raise each number to the power and then multiply
PEMDAS
Parentheses exponents multiply divide add subtract
Raising a number to the Power of zero
Any number raised to the power of zero is always one
Raising a number to a negative power
The number raised a negative power is the equivalent to one over the other number raised to the same power.
Median
Middle value in a series of numbers
