Gravitational Waves Flashcards
1
Q
What are Gravitational Waves?
A
Gravitational waves are ripples in spacetime. They don’t move through spacetime, they move spacetime itself, squeezing and stretching matter as is passes through.
2
Q
Why are Gravitational Waves so hard to detect?
A
Gravitational waves are hard to detect because their effect is very weak, especially by the time it would reach the earth.
3
Q
What are gravitational waves primary sources?
A
Gravitational waves mainly come from black hole mergers and neutron star mergers.
