Gravitational Force Flashcards
1
Q
What is Gravitational Force?
A
- the force of interaction between two objects
- the larger the mass of the object, the greater its gravitational force
2
Q
What is the difference between Weight and Mass?
A
- weight is the force of gravity pushed on an object while mass is the amount of matter inside an object
3
Q
What is the formula for finding Weight?
A
Weight = mass of an object x gravity
if gravity is not given in an problem sentence, then it is always 10 because the earth’s gravitational force is 10.
the SI Unit for weight N or kgm/s^2
4
Q
What is Center of Gravity?
A
- the point at which all the weight of an object seems to act
5
Q
What is Stability?
A
- the measure of how likely it is for an object to topple over if pushed or moved
6
Q
What affects Stability?
A
- the center of gravity: the lower your center of gravity, the less likely it is for you to topple over, the higher your center of gravity, the more likelt it is for you to topple over
- area: the bigger the area, the more stable the object
- base of an object: if an object has a wider base, the more stable it will be
