Gravitational and Electric Fields Flashcards
Potential
Work done to move an object from infinity to that point in the field.
Object = 1kg mass or +ve (+1C) charge
Field
Region in which a body experiences a non-contact force
Newton’s Law of Gravitation
Force between two masses is directly proportional to the product of the two masses and inversely proportional to the separation squared
Gravitational Field Line
Direction of force acting on a small mass placed at that point in the field
Gravitational Field Strength
Force acting per unit mass on a small mass placed at that point
Potential difference
Work done to move an object from one point in field to another
Equipotential
Line of constant potential so no work is done to move along an equipotential surface
Coulomb’s Law
Force between two charges is directly proportional to the product of the two charges and inversely proportional to the separation squared.
Electric Field line
Direction of the force on a positive charge at that point.
Electric Field Strength
Force acting per unit charge on a small positive charge placed at that point.
Absolute Potential Energy
Work done to move that object from infinity to that point.
