Graphs Flashcards

1
Q

Bar Chart

A

Typically used for nominal categorical data. Can be used for ordinal data but the bars must then follow the rank order of the variable categories.

Q

Histograms

A

A type of bar chart with no spaces between the bars as they typically display ordinal (ranked) data or continuous (infinite variable) data. The variables should be organized according to rank.

Line graphs

A

Continuous variables that change over time are frequently best illustrated using this graph. The horizontal axis shows the passage of time, the vertical axis marks the value of the variable over time.

Scatterplots

A

Each point on this graph represents a single response. Good for identifying outliers and trends between variables

A

A

an asymmetrical distribution caused by outliers on the right showing a tail moving towards the right side of the graph.

Q

What is a Z-score

A

a standardized measure that tells you how many standard deviations value is from the mean. (used only for normal distributions)
