Graphs Flashcards
How to work out displacement with a displacement~time graph?
The displacement at end of graph
If a displacement~time graph has straight line horizontal what does it mean?
It’s stationary
If a displacement~time graph has a straight line at an angle what does it mean?
It’s constant
If a displacement~time graph has a curve what does it mean?
It’s accelerating/decelerating
How to work out total distance using a displacement~time graph?
The distance it moves when not stationary
If a velocity~time graph has a straight line at an angle above x-axis what does it mean?
Accelerating/decelerating
If a velocity~time graph has a straight line at an angle below x-axis what does it mean?
Accelerating/decelerating in opposite direction
If a velocity~time graph has a straight line horizontally what does it mean?
It’s constant
How to work out total distance using velocity~time graph?
The total area under graph (cut the graph into sections to work out area)
How to turn a velocity~time graph into an acceleration~time graph?
Draw it as square shapes, don’t draw anything if constant, work out acceleration by gradient of line and draw across the time it lasts, draw below axis if going in opposite direction
How does a parachute jump on a velocity~time graph look
Curve rising then straight line then 1st tv when not open, when opened sudden curved drop into a straight line which is the 2nd tv
How does a bouncing ball on a distance~time graph look
It’s in curves where it always reaches the same height but after each dull the curve gets smaller and at the end make it pointy
How does a bouncing ball on a velocity~time graph look
Curves constantly crossing x-axis and getting smaller on both sides of y-axis each time
How to find acceleration on velocity~time graph
Draw a tangent on curve using normal and find gradient of tangent
