Graphing & transformations Flashcards
What is a y-axis?
The vertical grid line
X-axis?
The horizontal line
Orgin?
Where the axis’ meet (0,0)
Quadrants?
The four regions of the coordinate grid. Left to right- 2, 1, 3, 4.
Coordinates-
The valise in an ordered pair (x,y)
Ordered pair-
The number of units up and down to find a spot (+, right or up, -, left or down)
What is…
Translation?
Reflection?
Rotation?
Translation- slide the shape
Reflection- Mirror image of a shape across a line, also called a “flip”.
What is an image?
The shape created from a transformation.
What is a prime? (‘)
Tells what vertex is of the original image and not the original (example I’m I slide shape DOG 2 left and 3 down, it becomes D’O’G’, and if I do so again, it becomes D’‘O’‘G’’)
Translation Arrow-
Shows the difference and direction that an object has been slid.
What do you need to know to rotate an image?
- Where the centre of rotation is located
- The angle of rotation
- The direction of rotation
Can a shape be rotated clockwise and counterclockwise?
Oui.
What is 90°, 180°, 270°, and 360°?
90°- quarter turn
180°- Half turn
270°- three quarter turn
360°- Full turn
What is a Cartesian plane?
A plane formed when a horizontal line crosses a vertical one, used for graphing data
