Graphing Polynomials Flashcards
How can you tell if an x intercept is a bounce back by looking at the equation?
The exponent for the factor is an even number.
example: (x-3)2(x+1) the intercept at 3 is a bounceback
If a polynomial has end behavior that is up, up what do you know?
The polynomial has a highest degree term that is positive and has an even exponent
If a polynomial has end behavior that is down, down what do you know?
The polynomial has a highest degree term that is negative and has an even exponent
Write the equation of the polynomial
(x+3)(x+2)(x-1)2
Name the following polynomial
5x - 2x3
Cubic Binomial
What is the equation of the polynomial?
x(x+2)3(x+5)
If a polynomial has end behavior that is up, down what do you know?
The polynomial has a highest degree term that is negative and has an odd exponent
Name the following polynomial
5x
Linear Monomial
What form should a polynomial be in to find the x intercepts?
Factored
If a polynomial has end behavior that is down, up what do you know?
The polynomial has a highest degree term that is positive and has an odd exponent
What are the x intercepts of the following polynomial?
(x+2)5(x-3)2(x+5)3
-2, 3, -5
What is the end behavior of the following polynomial?
-3x7+2x6+5
up, down
What is the end behavior of the following polynomial?
3x3+2x4+1
up, up
hint: remember to look at the highest degree term not necessarily the first term
Name the following polynomial
3x4+2x + 2
Quartic Trinomial
What form should a polynomial be in to easily find the y intercept?
Standard
