What does GUI mean?
Graphical User Interface.
Explain why a GUI is needed?
It allows users to interact with electronic devices through graphics and icons.
What is the difference between booting up and loggin on?
1) Booting up: When you switch on the computer and the operating system automatically loads.
2) Logging on: When you type in a username and password to access your programs and data.
What is the purpose of the START BUTTON?
Allows you to access computer programs and data and lets you shut your computer down.
What are LIVE TILES?
They display information in real time by updating the information from the internet.
What is the NOTIFICATION AREA?
It displays programs running in the background and information such as date, time and internet connection status.
What is an ICON?
A small, picture symbol that represents an action or a resource such as a program or file.
Where can you find the RIBBON?
At the top of the window.
What is the TITLE BAR?
The bar at the top of the window that displays the name of the file that you are working on.
What are TABS?
Headings given to the logical groups of commands in the Ribbon.
Where is the TASKBAR?
At the bottom of the window.
What is the purpose of the Taskbar?
It is a place for users to place shortcuts to their most frequently used programs.
What is a DIALOG BOX?
A small window that is used for communication between a computer and a user.
Name THREE ways a Dialog box is used.
1) Provides options to complete a task.
2) Provides warnings.
3) Provides error messages.
What is a TOOLTIP?
An information box that pops up when you rest the pointer on an icon or object. The box tells you more about the tool you are pointing to.
