1
Q

What is graphical communication?

A

Sharing information and ideas using graphics. You use it to develop your ideas and explain to others how to make the product.

Q

There are a standard set of rules (conventions) that designers use so that their drawings can be understood by everyone.

Name three conventions in line drawing

A

Outlines - thick and dark - show the visible part of the product
Construction lines - thin, feint, continuous lines - show the lines required to construct other lines
Hidden detail lines - dashed lines - show the hidden parts of the product.

Dimension lines are

A

continuous, feint lines showing the distance between two points. There are arrowheads on either end and measurements are added in mm.

Q

What is a scale drawing?

A

a drawing used to accurately represent an object that is too big or too small to be drawn to accurate size. A scale drawing has the same proportions as the original object but they are either sized up, if the object is small, or sized down, if the object is big.

Q

What are the advantages of free-hand sketching?

A

Idea can be quickly and easily sketched
Changes can be made easily and quickly
You can get your thoughts in order before formalising the drawings
Compare ideas and communicate with others.

Q

What are working drawings?

A

2D drawings that show only one side of an object. All drawing conventions (lines, dimensions and scale) are included on the drawing.
A working drawing should have a cutting list which is a list of all the materials used and the required finish.

Q

What are oblique drawings?

A

3D drawings where the front view is facing directly towards the observer, yet shows the true shape of the object.

Q

How do you create the 3D effect for a rectangle?

A

Parallel lines are drawn from the front face at 45deg and joined.

Q

What is a single vanishing point perspective drawing?

A

A method of drawing objects realistically, in which the objects become smaller along lines called vanishing lines.
These lines converge at a single point, called the Vanishing Point (VP), in the distance.

Q

What is 3D artistic drawing?

A

A type of free-hand drawing that creates an artistic impression of an object using colour, shading and texture.

17
Q

What is shading?

A

Shading involves pressing down harder or softer with you pencil so that the colour is darker or lighter. The purpose of shading is to create a more realistic look of an object, adding depth and detail.

18
Q

What is texture?

A

The feel or appearance of surfaces in a 3D drawing.
