- late to ripen (needs warm climate)
- high acid
- high tannins
- aroma: red cherries, plums and dried herbs
- aged in oak (usually): softens tanins and adds spice
- aged in bottle: meaty and gamey aromas

Describe the style, grapes and location Chianti DOCG
A
Sangiovese dominant, french and italian varieties allowed for blending
The wine is made from the wider Chianti region, and high quality wines can be made from a particular subzone (Chianti Colli Senesi or Chianti Rufina)

A
Vineyards at are higher altitudes than Chianti DOCG, slowing ripening for Sangiovese:
- Higher acid
- More herbal aromas
