Q

Guess the grape. I am the second most planted grape variety in Greece and grown widely throughout the country. I am pink skinned and am able to produce high yields, therefore I am mainly used to produce inexpensive wines and as a blending ingredient for Retsina. Best examples are medium bodied with high acidity and flavours of ripe fruits such as melon.

Q

What special capacity does Assyrtiko have that allows it to retain balance, make age worthy wines despite being grown in the hottest conditions and makes it a great candidate for the production of luscious sweet wines?

A

It retains high levels of acidity when ripe, even in the hottest conditions, which balances out the typically high alcohol levels.
