Why and when was the Grand Alliance set up?
What was the purpose of the Grand Alliance?
A
-Grand Alliance was set up in 1941 by USA, Soviet Union and Britain to defeat Hitler and the
Nazis. It was an alliance of convenience by 3 Superpowers who had little in common.

What did the superpowers recognise about the Soviet Union?
A
They did recognise that the Soviet Union would ‘influence’ Poland, Czechoslovakia, the Baltic States, Hungary and Romania. BUT these states were supposed to have free elections and some democracy.

What did America and Britain want?
A
-America and Britain wanted the Soviet Union to accept their influence in Western Europe, Greece and Italy.
