What are nouns?
Person place or thing or idea
What are compound noun?
Nouns made up of two or more words EX: daydream, self-esteem
What is a common noun?
Noun that is general EX: girl, city
What is a proper noun?
A noun that is specific (should be capitalized) EX: Sally, Memphis
What is a collective noun?
Noun that refers to a group (many things make up this group) EX: herd, team, flock
What is an Abstract noun?
Noun that is feeling or emotion EX: jealous, pain, courage
Action verb
Something you physically you do EX: run, walk
Helping (auxiliary) verb
Helps out the action verb by showing past or present tense
EX: is, will be
Linking verb
All alone links a subject to a noun or adjective
Adjective
Demonstrate- THIS, THAT, THOSE, THESE (describes a noun or pronoun) EX: these students
Proper adjective
Formed form a proper noun EX: Greek, Japanese
Adverbs
Describes a verb, adjective, or other adverb. Usually ends a ily (WHERE? WHEN. HOW OFTEN. HOW. TO WHAT EXTENT . HOW MUCH. HOW LONG. )
Pronoun
Takes the place
Coordinating conjunction
Sometimes “and” is used to combine multiple subjects in a sentence
EX: all the cats AND dogs were adopted this weekend
Combining verbs with “and” and “or”
Sometimes “and” and “or” are used to show that multiple verbs link to the same subject
EX: I can’t tell if Sarah washed OR cut her hair
