Grammar Rules Flashcards
The Present Continuous Tense
When we want to make Hindi sentence in the Present Continuous Tense (that’s basically just adding ‘-ing’) we use the verb root followed by either…
● रहा rahaa is the subject is Masculine and Singular,
● रहे rahee if the subject is Masculine and Plural
● रही rahee if the subject is Feminine.
● रही rahee if the subject is Feminine and Plural
Present Tense
The Present Tense shows something is happening now - in the ‘present’ and not in the Past or in the Future!
RULES:
- When the Subject is Masculine Singular (that is when it’s just one person and it’s a male) then we add ता taa to the verb root. (मैं खाता हूँ)
- When the Subject is Masculine Plural (that’s when it’s a group of males or a group of mixed gender) we add ते te to the verb root. (हम पीते हैं)
- Finally when the Subject is Feminine Singular or Plural (that is when it’s just one female or a group) we add ती tee to the verb root! (वि पढ़ती है)
Making Nouns Plural
Masculine Nouns
● If the noun ends with आ aa then drop the आ aa and add ए e.
● If not then the word doesn’t change at all!
Feminine Nouns
● If the noun ends with ई ee then drop the ई ee and add इयाँ iyaan.
● If not then simply add एँ en to the end!
