What is a proper noun
Names given to particular people, places or things e.g restaurant, dogma writers stadium
What is a collective noun
Refers to groups of things
What is an abstract noun
Refers to ideas, qualities, feelings or states
What is a pronoun
Replaces nouns. E.g he/she/her/it/they/them
What is a verb
A word that describes an action, state or occurrence e.g walked, played, ordered, swayed
What is a conjugating verb
TO laugh,TO walk, I laugh, YOU laugh
What is perfect tense
An action in the past which has been completed and is still influencing the present e.g he HAS worked at the garage for 2 years
What is pluperfect tense
An action that occurred in the past before another action that also happened in the past. E.g I HAD organised to go on holiday to go on holiday BEFORE the accident
What are adverbs
Describe the quality of a verb
What is a preposition
Expresses the relationship between a noun and other elements of a sentence e.g near, in, at
What is a phrase
A group of words which do not include both a subject and related verb
What is an independent clause
Clauses that can stand on their own as a sentence
What is a subordinate clause
Clauses that cannot stand on their own as a sentence
What is a simple sentence
Includes the subject and verb in one sentence
