Imperative sentence
Gives a command ends with exclamation mark !
“ please be quiet baby is sleeping “
Compound-complex sentence
Has at least two independent clauses and at least one dependent clause
( help us express complicated thoughts )
Interrogative sentence
Asks a question ends with a question mark ?
“ when are you leaving? “
Exclamatory sentence
Shows strong feelings ends with an exclamation mark!
“ you have been careless!”
Dependant clause
Does not stand alone as a sentence.
‘ does not express a complete throught’
Independent clause
Can stand alone as a sentence.
Has one subject and verb
Simple sentence
“ it was raining “
A simple sentence makes sense on its own.
Compound sentence
Has two clauses ( two parts of sentence) joined by connective ( so, and but )
It was raining so I took my umbrella
Complex sentence
Has a main clause ( independent) and a dependent that adds information
“ as it was raining, I took my umbrella “
