Transitive verbs
Requires direct object for complete meaning
Subject complement
Follows the linking verb and gives information about the subject
Direct object
After the transitive verb and answers what/whom about the verb

Independent clause
Group of words with a subject and a verb that expresses a complete thought (complete sentence)
Dependent clause/subordinate clause
Group of words with a subject and a verb that doesn’t express a complete though, needs an independent clause for complete sentence, begins with subordinating conjunction
Simple sentence
A sentence with only one independent clause
Compound sentence
A sentence with at least two independent clauses usually joined by a coordinating conjunction or semicolon
Coordinating conjunctions
For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
Complex sentence
A sentence with one independent clause and at least one dependent clause joined with a subordinating conjunction
