What is an ideal specimen?
Void of contamination, adequate volume, before abx, labelled carefully, to lab in a timely manner
What bacteria do not gram stain?
mycoplasma
Gram positive cocci cluster
staphylococcus
Gram positive cocci chains
streptococcus, enterococcus
Gram positive diplococci
strep pneumonia
Positive rod that are large and square ended
clostridium, bacillus, lactobacillus
Positive Rod medium length
cornyebacterium, listeria
Gram negative cocci- diplococci

Where would expect a sample saying that there is very little growth
