Virulence- polysaccharide capsule, peptidoglycan, teichoic acid, PROTEIN A, EXOTOXINS (alpa, beta, gamma), EXOFOLIATIN (scalded skin syndrome), Toxic Shock Syndrome 1 (TSST1), Enterotoxin (food poisoning),
EXOENZYMES: protease lipase, hyaluronidases, hemolysin, coagulase, staphylokinase, nuclease, penicillinase, catalase
LOCAL INFECTIONS: skin and subcutaneous (skin, soft tissue, bone, joint, endovascular, wound infection)
ERYSEPLAS, CELLULITIS, FOLLICULITIS, FURUNCLE/BOIL, CARBUNCLE, IMPETIGO
-Local infections:
-respiratory=pneumonia w/ cavitation
-Systemic Infections: acute endocarditis, meningitis, osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, pyelonephritic
-Toxin mediated: toxic shock syndrome (TSST1), scalded skin syndrome (ritter’s disease), food poisoning
-LESS COMMON: pneumonia+UTI
-1/4 most common cause of nosocomial infections (surgery wounds)
