A

An argument that is generally true but has some exceptions. It can be used to express a writer’s opinion when they’re not completely on one side of an argument, but somewhere in the middle.

Example: People should generally keep anything told to them in confidence a secret. However, if the secret involves a plan to do harm in the future, they need to tell that secret.
