Short Story
a brief work of prose fiction; literature that contains events made up by the author.
Biblical Narrative
a divinely inspired, God-given account of real-life events. Biblical narratives, like narrative fiction, contain many literary elements such as setting, plot, conflict, and dialogue.
Folktale
story that is usually anonymous and passed along by word of mouth.
Fairytale
type of folktale set in an indefinite time and place and containing magical or fantastic elements.
Historical Fiction
combines imagined events and characters with historical characters, events, and settings from a time period prior to the author’s own.
Novel Excerpt
a selection from a novel, an extended work of fictional prose.
Informational Text
nonfiction text that provides facts about a subject.
Adaptation
rewritten version of an author’s work that has been changed for reasons such as length or readability.
Prose
a genre of writing that resembles a speech
Poetry
artfully compressed thought resulting in the elevated expression of ideas.
Hymn
poem of praise or Thanksgiving meant to be sung to God.
