GRADE 4 - Effects of Force on Objects Flashcards
What is a “Force”?
A vector quantity that can be described as a push or pull on an object resulting from the object’s interaction with another object.
What is a vector quantity?
Any quantity that has magnitude and direction. or
Which causes acceleration
Force only exist as?
As a result of an interaction
Force is measured in units called?
Newton (N) - from Isaac Newton
What are the effects of force?
- Start things to move
- Stop things to move
- Change speed
- Change direction
- Change shape
What is a magnet?
An object that attracts certain material such as iron.
Regions where the magnet is strongest?
North and South poles 9 (because it always line up with the Earth’s axis when allowed to move freely)
What is the force that a magnet exerts on certain material?
Magnetic Force
What allows the magnet to Exert force over a distance?
Magnet is surrounded by a MAGNETIC FIELD
Effect of Force is also called
Resultant Forces
if resultant force is zero
Forces on the object are balanced
If the resultant force acting on the object is ‘zero’
Then the object will remain stationary. In such case the object will move at steady speed in a straight line.
If the resultant force acting on the object isn’t zero
Then the object will either accelerate or decelerate.
