Keeping knees separate bring opposite leg over the leg they are holding by lowering the knee of the leg they are holding to the ground. Place foot on their hip. Replace foot with other foot and straighten body into stage 4 position.

Shrimp Escape - Block and Shoot (24.1)

Stay on your side (not your back). Extend arms with slight bend to block and slow them as the enter into side control. Use your arms to pull your hips into them bringing your close knee between you and their hips stopping only when the top of your foot stops on the side of their hip and your other foot across their back. Square your body up with them by pushing your knee against their hips. Shift weight to other hip and put foot down between their legs. Shrimp body away while keeping your foot planted to get your foot out and into guard.

Punch side palm on your head to block punch. Duck and enter in placing the other hand to the front of their hip. Keep facing straight in and duck under their arm. Move your hip forward and head back and up pushing into the back of their shoulder. Put your ear in the center of their back. Grab your hand in s-grip. Hips out. Pinch their hips between shoulder and hands.

Keep 2 arm length distance until you decide to move in. Throw palm strike into face to enter the clinch. Move in putting your foot between their feet. Place shoulder on their stomach and palms on back of calves right under their knees. Push into them with shoulder and pull their knees inward falling down to one knee and pushing them on their back. Tripod up on your shoulder and feet with extended legs using your hand flat on the ground to block beside their hip. The other hand collapses their knee so you can walk around and clear their knee. Slide up into side control.

Palms on forehead, duck punch, enter until your arms run into their chest. Front leg in and on the outside of their leg. Front leg arm around the back like a bar, grab wrist with monkey grip at hip. Ear in center of chest pushing up into their chin. Your hip touches their hip. Press head over and draw arm in. Take small steps in for easier control.

Grab far hip with hand around their back. Place setup step foot with heel toward their toes. Step other foot between their feet blocking far knee. Keep setup step leg straight and squat other leg pulling them in a twisting motion over your straightened leg. Keep momentum as you fall, bring in elbow so it doesn’t get pinned under their body, and swing your leg over their body into modified mount.

High guard squeeze. Extend legs. Stuff head with both hands. Drop inside hip to get foot on their hip. Extend. Hold their arm. Other foot on hip like stage 4. Keep arm control side leg extended. Knee yourself in you own shoulder with other leg into triangle setup, blocking punches. [Triangle] Raise hips, move arm over, lower hips. Grab shin beside head controlling head. Shoulder walk and push off hip with foot to align leg vertically. Cross legs. Add hands to head.

Put hands out on their shoulders and move your feet back to absorb some of their movement in. Drop one hand for a forearm on their shoulder and this arm will lead their head under your arm. Wrap their neck. Grab your wrist with monkey grip. Bring your hips in to choke them with your arm on one side and ribs on the other by lowering your weight on the back of their neck.

Guillotine Defense (32.1)

Grab wrist of choking hand and pull it away from your neck relieving the choke somewhat. Throw the other arm over their far shoulder and hang a lot of weight on their shoulder. Step in front of them. Buckle their leg with your knee and sidestep down as they fall into side mount. If they don’t release the choke, lift them on their side with your upper body to relieve some of the bend in your neck, then paper cutter choke with your forearm on their neck until they release the choke. Then gable grip for side control.

Armbar - Low (19.1)

Head control. Holding the back of their neck, move arm over their head to frame their neck. Push back some to get space for your leg to swing in but still hold their shoulder preventing them sitting up. Underhook their leg with your hand. Swing both legs up their body, lower goes into their armpit and higher around their head. Drive heels down on their back and neck respectively. Both hands on their arm rotating thumb south. Hip up.

Underhook arm on posted leg side. Pull them north with both arm and leg to transfer all their weight to their knee. Sweep knee out from under them while bending at waist to move head and compromise their elbow post.

Kimura - Rider (25.2)

Keep hold of their neck when they sit up riding up with them. Swim arm over their head keeping their upper body under control as it swims down behind their arm. Lower hand grabs their wrist, but not before other arm has control of their upper arm. Figure-4 collapsing their arm and bringing their elbow toward your chin. Put your leg on the ground behind their leg as you push their shoulder down into the ground making them face plant. Shift your hips and shoulders under them until you can get a scissor grip on their body with your ankles locked. Focus on the scissor squeeze more than trying to finish with your arms. Twist your torso to finish the submission instead of trying to out muscle them with your arms. Your arms are for controlling their arm and your torso is for finishing the submssion.

Grab both ankles with monkey grip. Bring feet in and push their hips like stage 4. Scoot back to avoid getting kicked in face. Stand up and base. Pass guard. Hands on their chest. Push-up down and transition into side control.

Opponent establishes and maintains a tight headlock

Headlock Escape 1 - Super Lock (18.3)

Frame their neck and push down and back. Shrimp to create a hole where their back is leaning on your ribs so they fall down the hole. Both legs and hips up in the air to grab around their head for a scissor choke but if you can’t reach around their head, or they hold on too tight for you to be able to break their grip with your leg, then when you fling your legs down and do a crunch you should be able to knock them over anyway ending up above them. Place hand at their hips to block, arm under their head to shoulder to open them up so you can swap your knees and bring your leg over into modified mount.

Headlock Escape 2 - Super Base (Kimura) (22.2)

Try for the neck frame first but if it keeps failing then bring your hips into theirs instead of shrimping away. Tuck your elbow under your body and grab their wrist with that hand. Grab their upper arm with the other arm. Hook your leg over theirs. Arch your back and drive your shoulder into their back making them faceplant. If you can’t keep the momentum of the roll and get into modified mount keep a hold of their wrist and as they faceplant bring your arm around their head to put downward pressure on their shoulder with your upper arm. Put your opposite hip toward the ground and raise your upper back up turning and looking back while pushing your shoulder firmly into the back of theirs creating a kimura submission.

Double handed wrist grab. Pull their arm spin your body and step in front of them as they run into your back, placing their arm under your armpit. Keep twisting pressure on their wrist and lean weight into their arm pushing your hands vertically.

Headlock Escape 1 - Standard Frame (18.1)

Frame their neck and push down and back. Shrimp to create a hole where their back is leaning on your ribs so they fall down the hole. Both legs and hips up in the air to grab around their head and bring the to the ground crossing your feet to trap their neck. Lower arm grabs their arm. Upper arm pushes off their ribs. Shrimp until your knee is directly under the center of their neck. Straighten legs to choke.

Vertical elbow to the gut to open their guard. Both elbows down forcefully to swim under their legs simultaneously (don’t let one get caught). Stack them bringing their knee toward their head. Grab shin beside head controlling head. Shoulder walk and push off hip with foot to align leg vertically. Cross legs. Add hands to head.

Headlock Escape 2 - Standard Leg Hook (22.1)

Try for the neck frame first but if it keeps failing then bring your hips into theirs instead of shrimping away. Tuck your elbow under your body and grab their wrist with that hand. Grab their upper arm with the other arm. Hook your leg over theirs. Arch your back and drive your shoulder into their back making them faceplant. Keep the momentum and roll them into modified mount.

One at a time, so you don’t lose control of their body, move your hands to the back of their shoulders. Pull them toward you and down lowering your hips. Hop in toward them once you have broken down their posture and extend your legs back pulling them down while keeping your feet out wide so they fall into your guard.

Block the heel of their far foot with the sole of your foot. Keep this leg straight, squat with other leg. Let arms extend as you fall until you pull them abruptly right at the end of their travel causing the opponent to fall in a spinning motion. Let go of your hold on their hips before you hit the ground so your arms don’t get stuck under their body. Keeping the momentum of the spin, swing your leg up over them to make it easier to establish modified mount.

Kimura - Forced (25.3)

Stuff their head down under your armpit riding up as they sit up. Grab upper arm. [Kimura Rider] Lower hand grabs their wrist, but not before other arm has control of their upper arm. Figure-4 collapsing their arm and bring their elbow toward your chin. Put your leg on the ground behind their leg as you push them down into the ground in a face plant. Shift your hips and shoulders under them until you can get a scissor grip on their body with you ankles locked. Focus n the scissor squeeze more than trying to finish with your arms. Twist your torso to finish the arms instead of trying to out muscle them with your arms.

When their weight transitions to the stepping leg, elbow on the non stepping knee. [Standard Elbow Escape] Your knee under. Trap their leg from inside with other leg. Head control with that hand. Turn over on other hip. Bite back with top leg. Elbow escape other leg. Swap hips again. Pull leg out to guard.

Headlock Escape 2 - Punch Block (22.3)

Stick your arms straight out and up, one in front of them and the other behind blocking the incoming punches. Hug their arm with both hands. Slide down to gain wrist control. Push wrist slightly to be able to thread back hand under their arm to grab their forearm. Once you control their forearm well you can leg hook and let go of the wrist stuffing your elbow as you arch your back and face plant them. Remove your hand from their forearm before they are all the way down so it won’t get stuck in their arm under their weight when they are under you. Continue rolling to modified mount or kimura finish.
