‘Est-ce que’:
Est-ce que (literally, ‘is it that’) can be placed at the beginning of any affirmative sentence to turn it into a question. Interrogative words are placed before est-ce que.
Est-ce que vous dansez?
Do you dance?
Est-ce que tu veux voir un film?
Do you want to see a movie?
Quand est-ce que tu veux partir?
When do you want to leave?
Inversion:
The conjugated verb and the subject pronoun are inverted and connected by a hyphen? Interrogative words are placed at the beginning of the sentence.
Dansez-vous?
Do you dance?
Quand veux-tu partir?
When do you want to leave?
Statements as questions:
Raising your voice at the end of a statement is a way of informally asking yes/no questions
Vous dansez?
You dance?
Il est arrivé?
He arrived?
‘N’est-ce pas?’:
‘N’est-ce pas’ can be tagged at the end of an affirmative sentence to turn it into an informal question
Tu danses, n’est-ce pas?
You dance, right?
Tu veux voir un film, n’est-ce pas?
