Why did the writers of the Constitution create a system of checks and balances?
They wanted to make sure that each branch of hte government “supervised” or watched over the others to make sure nobody abused power.
What is popular soverneignty?
The idea that in our government all power comes from the PEOPLE!
What was added to the Consitution to protect our basic rights?
The Bill of Rights (first 10 amendments)
What is judicial review?
It is the Supreme Courts power to declare a law, or presidential action unconsitutional
What does it mean to be unconstitutional?
that something goes against hte basic ideas of the constitution and it can no longer exist or be a law
What does the electoral college do?
It is the group that casts the final votes for presidents based on how the majority of each state voted.
