To choose by voting.
Executive
The branch of government that sees that the laws are obeyed.
Government services
Work that is done by the government for everyone in a city or town.
Governor
The elected leader of a state’s government.
Judge
A person from the community who is chosen to work as a leader in the courts.
Judicial
The branch of government that decides whether laws have been fair.
Law
Rules what a community makes.
Legislative
The branch of government that makes laws.
Majority rule
When more than half the people vote for the same thing or person, they get what they want.
Mayor
A leader of a community government.
Minority rights
A smaller group that did not vote for the same thing or did not choose the same person still get to keep their rights.
Amendment
Changes to the Constitution.
Appoint
To choose a person to do a job.
Bar graph
A kind of graph that uses bars to show amounts and numbers of things.
Bill of Rights
10 Amendments list the freedoms and responsibilities that the people of the United States will always have.
Capitol
Government building in a capital city.
