Constitution
A set of principles and rules by which a country is organised and governed.
Codified
To arrange in accordance to a set plan or system.
Entrenched
An attitude or belief or ideology that has been firmly established and is unlikely to change.
Parliamentary sovereignty
A concept of law in some Parliamentary democracies which states the legislative body is supreme over all other government institutions.
Unitary constitution
All legal sovereignty being contained by a single entity or power that gives government supreme authority.
Federalism
Federalism is a system of government in which the same territory is controlled by two levels of government.
Statute
A written law passed by a legislative body
Constitutional convention
A meeting of representatives to adopt a new constitution or revise existing constitution.
Common law
The body of law created by judges and judicial tribunals by virtue of their political and written opinions.
Authoritative work
Books and written work written by constitutional theorists that are considered to be authoritative guides and to the UK’s uncodified constituion
