A

What is federation? and when and why did it happen?

A

It was the joining of all the colonies in Australia to make a nation, happened on the 1st of January 1901
Happened because colonies were concerned with foreign affairs, immigration, defence, trade, commerce, industrial relations

What’s a referendum?and what do they require

A

A vote of the Australian people on measures proposed or passed by the Australian parliament.
There are many types of referendums that can be held, most common is a constitutional referendum
Referendums require a double majority= majority of voters + majority of states

A

List in order your preferences

Votes are reallocated until candidate has a majority > more then 50% of votes

A

A geographical area representing a % of voters eg:

80-90K in federal elections

A

A set of fundamental laws that govern a nation

That the head of state is the queen

A

That Australian gov has their set of fundamental laws that they follow but the queen can override these laws as she is head of state
