absolute monarchy
the monarch holds total control over the country
constitutional monarchies
this is when the monarch holds some power, but its restricted by a constitution
dictatorship
there is no sharing power with other authorities the dictator is the sole ruler over the country
oligarchy
a small group of people is in charge
democracy
the power is given to the people
direct democracy
this is when every citizen is given an equal vote in the government and together make all of the important decisions
representative democracy
this is where citizens elect lawmakers to represent their interests in the government
presidential democracy
People directly vote for both the president and representatives. Legislature makes laws and the president approves them.
parliamentary democracy
People vote only for the legislature. The party with the most seats picks the prime minister.
indirect democracy
this is where citizens elect lawmakers to represent their interests in the government
representative democracy
Citizens vote for their government officials. These officials represent the citizens’ ideas and concerns in government. Voting is one way to participate in our democracy.
theocracy
a government run by religious doctrine
