Autocracy
One person has the power (Example: Monarchy and Dictatorship)
Monarchy
A king or queen who inherits their power through their family line
Totalitarian
One political party who has 100% of power, and people are forced to follow them
Absolute Monarchy
A monarchy who holds 100% power over the nation
Constitutional Monarchy
When a monarchy holds some power, but has to follow the constitution
Dictatorship
A person who has 100% total control over the nation, or has no sharing power
Oligarchy
A small group of people that are in charge
Democracy
The power is given to the people
Indirect Democracy
Also known as representative democracy, or the people elect lawmakers to tell the government their interests
Direct Democracy
Where all people are given equal power and they all vote to make decisions
Representative Democracy
The same definition as an indirect democracy
Constitutional Republic
Where people elect representatives to make decisions Example: The U.S. is this government
Anarchy
No one is in charge
Theocracy
A government run by religious doctrine Example: Vatican city has this government
What 3 powers does the U.S. government have
The power to make laws, enforce laws, and judicial power
Presidential Democracy
When people vote the nation’s legislature and president. The Legislature makes laws, while the president can approve it or not.
Parliamentary Democracy
People only vote for the legislature. The political party that has the most seats gets to choose the Prime Minister
What are the roles of governments
To make and enforce laws, protect people and to provide public services.
