Autocracy
One person has the power. (Example: Monarchy and Dictatorship)
Totalitarian
One political party is in power, and people are forced to do what the government tells them.
Monarchy
a king or queen inherits their power and position through their family line.
Absolute Monarchy
A monarch that holds total control over the country.
Constitutional monarchies
The monarch holds some power, but it is restricted by a constitution.
Dictatorship
There is no sharing power with other authorities;
a dictator sole ruler over their country.
Oligarchy
A small group of people is in charge.
Democracy
The power is given to the people, the citizens.
Direct democracy
When every citizen is given an equal vote in government.
Representative democracy
Where citizens elect lawmakers to represent their interests in the governments. Can also be called indirect democracy and republic.
Constitutional Republic
Citizens vote on representatives to make laws and decisions for the country. (U.S.citizens use this form of government.)
Modern democracies divide power into what threes branches?

Theocracy
A government run by religious doctrine.
Anarchy
Not a government at all; no one is in charge
