Autocracy
One person has the power. (Example: Monarchy and Dictatorship)
Monarchy
A king or queen inherits their power and position through their family line.
Totalitarian
One political party is in power, and people are forced to do what the government tells them.
Absolute Monarchy
Monarch holds TOTAL CONTROL over the country
Constitutional Monarchies
When the monarch holds SOME power, but it is restricted by a constitution.
Dictatorship
One person is in charge and no sharing power with other authorities.
Oligarchy
A small group of people that are all in charge.
Democracy
The power is given to the citizens of the nation.
Direct Democracy
When every citizen is given an equal vote in government, and together, make all of the important decisions
Representative Democracy
Where citizens elect lawmakers to represent their interests in the government. (Also known as indirect democracy.)
Indirect Democracy
Where citizens elect lawmakers to represent their interests in the government. (Also known as Representative Democracy.)
Constitutional Republic
Citizens vote on representatives to make laws and decisions for the country.
Theocracy
A government run by religious doctrine.
Anarchy
No one is in charge.
