Autocracy
One person has the power. [Example: Monarchy and Dictatorship]
Monarchy
A king or queen inherits their power and position through their family line.
Absolute Monarchy
The monarch holds total control over the country.
Constitutional Monarchy
When the monarch holds some power, but it is restricted by a constitution.
Dictatorship
There is no sharing power with other authorities.
Oligarchy
Small group of people is in charge.
Democracy
The power is given to the people. (citizens)
Direct Democracy
When every citizen is given an equal vote in government.
Representative Democracy
Where citizens elect lawmakers to represent their interest in the government. [Also known as Indirect Democracy]
Indirect Democracy
Where citizens elect lawmakers to represent their interest in the government. [Also known as Representative Democracy]
Constitutional Republic
Citizens vote on representatives to make law and decisions for the country.
