Autocracy
One person has all the power. Dictator and monarcy.
Monarchy
A king or queen inherits their power and position through their family line.
Totalitarian
One political party is in power and people are forced to do what the government tells them.
Absolute Monarchy
Holds total control over the country.
Constitutional monarchies
Monarchy holds some power but is restricted by a constitution.
Dictatorship
The dictator is the sole ruler over their country.
Oligarchy
A small group of people is in charge.
Democracy
The power is given to the people.
How does an presidential democracy work
People directly vote for the countries leader and legislature. The legislature makes laws and the president approves or denies the law.
How does a parliamentary democracy work
People only vote for their legislature. The political party that has the most seats gets to choose the Prime Minister.
Direct Democracy
The power is given 100% to the people.
Representative Democracy
Where citizens elect ( vote for, choose) lawmakers to represent their interests in the government.
Constitutional republic
U.S citizens vote on representatives to make laws and decisions for the country.
Theocracy meaning
A government run by religious doctrine.
Anarchy
No one is in charge.
