Nation-State
Vote for someone to represent us in government. Example: The United States
Republic
The power is given to the people, the citizens, of the nation.
Democracy
When every citizen is given an equal vote in government and, together, make all of the important decisions. Example: Athens, Ancient Greece
Direct Democracy
Where citizens elect lawmakers to represent their interests in the government.
Indirect Democracy
A government run by religious doctrine. Example: The Vatican
Theocracy
A small group of people is in charge. Example: Saudi Arabia
Oligarchy
There is no sharing power with other authorities. Example: North Korea
Dictatorship
The monarch holds total control over the country.
Absolute Monarchy
When the monarch holds some power, but is restricted by a constitution. Example: England
Constitutional Monarchy
No one is in charge.
Anarchy
A group of people who control the country, make laws, and keep order.

To make and enforce laws, protect people and to provide public services.
