Nation-State
Vote for someone to represent us in government. Example: The US
Republic
The power is given to the people, the citizens, of the nation.
Democracy
When every citizen is given an equal vote in government and, together, make all of the important decisions. Example: When four friends vote on where to go for dinner.
Direct Democracy
Where citizens elect lawmakers to represent their interests in the government. Example: Representative democracy is modeled after the Ancient Roman Republic
Indirect Democracy
A government run by religious doctrine. Example: The Vatican City, is headed by the Catholic Pope.
Theocracy
What are the roles of Government?
To make and enforce laws, protect people and to provide public services.
What three powers do all of the governments have?
Make laws, enforce laws, and judiciary power (alter laws.)
A small group of people that are in charge. Example: Saudi Arabia
Oligarchy
A small group of people that are in charge. Example: The kim family, North Korea
Dictatorship
One political party is in power, and people are forced to do what the government tells them.
Totalitarian
You vote for your country’s leader and the legislature.
Presidential Democracy
You only vote for your legislature. Then the voted representatives choose a Prime Minister.
Parliamentary Democracy
The monarch holds total control over the country. Example: Magna Carta 2015
Absolute Monarchy
A group of people who control the country, make laws, and keep order.
