When a nation of people have a country of their own. Example: France, Japan, Germany, and Egypt.
Nation State
People who vote for someone to represent them and make decisions for them. Example: US, Mexico, India, France, and Kenya.
Republic
Power given to the people, the citizens, of the nations. Example: United States.
Democracy
When every citizen is given an equal in government and together, make all of the important decisions. Example: The Greek city of Athens.
Direct Democracy
Where citizens elect (vote for, or choose) lawmakers to represent their interests in the government. Example: Nigeria, South Africa, and Indonesia.
Indirect Democracy
A government run by religious doctrine. Example: Saudi Arabia.
Theocracy
A small group of people in charge. Example: Russia
Oligarchy
No sharing power with other authorities. Example: Adolf Hitler’s Germany
Dictatorship
The monarch holds total control over the country. Example: Saudi Arabia
Absolute Monarchy
When the monarch holds some power, it is restricted by a constitution. Example: Denmark, Spain, and Luxembourg.
Constitutional Monarchy
No one is in charge. Example: Everyone looks out for themselves.
Anarchy
A group of people who control the country, make laws, and keep order. Example: There are 11 types of government.
Government
What are the roles of Government?
To make and enforce laws, protect people and to provide public services.
What three powers do all governments have?
Make laws, enforce laws, and judiciary power (alter laws).
One political party is in power, and people are forced to do what the government tells them.
