What is sublime?
We experience sublime when we are out in the nature.
What does sublime mean ?
It’s a hard feeling to describe.
Why was sublime so important to the romantics ?
Romanics loved nature and believed that were terrified and upfilled all at once when we were facing the extreme parts of the nature.
what does exoticism mean ?
Exoticism is about the view of difference or otherness.
How was it represented in the gothic ?
Exoticism in 19th-century literature was primarily understood trough geographic remoteness and Europe’s interest in foregin languages.
Victorian vs Modern view of exoticism
Victorians were fascinated literary illustrations of the exotic. Today it is used casually , Eg exotic fruits, exotic dances ,exotic hobbies.
Industrialisation
The industrial revolution was bringing lots of changes at the time,like the French revolution,the romantics poets began writing.More people were moving to the cities to work at the factorys.
Why did the industrialisation affect the romantics?
They weren’t happy about these changes because the people were moving away from the nature, so romantics did a movement against industrialisation.
What is isolation?
The very basic idea of isolation is that you are beeing in a prision with no one left alone like in jail.
how is isolation represented in gothic stories?
The use of villan who is misunderstood and the typical damsel-in-distress that rarely have friends or familly that care about him/her.
Why was gothic literature so interested in isolation?
The romantics came before the gothichs believed in the importance of the individuals are often isolated.
Transgression
Transgression is the violation of a particular socieatal moral or natural law.
Gothic novel with transgression
according to the author, he believe that early gothic novels warned against moral and social transgression.That would lead at losing civility
Terror
Terror usually gets mixed up with horror but they are comeplitly different subjects. Terror can be traduced to fear that is a feeling of danger or something bad is gonna happen.Terror creates suspence or a bad feeling that something bad is comming.

Eg.It was a dark cold night with the wind slapping the walls of the house,me and my friend were at a sleep over, i got down stares so did my friend and heard a noise from up stares we sat down and listened to the squickly noise our parents were home so i grabbed a flash light as quiet as possible and my friend grabbed a knife , we both maked our way to the stairs step by step as the noise got louder…
