Anger and Judgement
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ † But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,† leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:21-24, OSB)
Christ on Adultery
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ † But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (Matthew 5:27-28, OSB)
Yes and No
But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. (Matthew 5:37, OSB)
Loving Your Enemies
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,† that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? (Matthew 5:43-46, OSB)
Charitable Deeds
“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.† Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.† But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,† that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. (Matthew 6:1-4, OSB)
Lay Your Treasure in Heaven
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;† but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:19-20, OSB)
Don’t Worry
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?† Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? (Matthew 6:25-26, OSB)
Seek First the Kingdom
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.† Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:33-34, OSB)
The faith of the Centurion
When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!† And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.† (Matthew 8:10-11, OSB)
Jesus’ yoke is easy and burden light
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.† Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30, OSB)
Jesus open Apostles eyes to the Scriptures
And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,† and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.† (Luke 24:45-47, OSB)
To Know Christ is to Know The Father
“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” (John 14:7, OSB)
Christ’s call to serve others
But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:25-28, OSB)
The Great Commission
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.† Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,† teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. † (Matthew 28:18-20, OSB)
