What is the universe?
The universe is everything. It includes all of space and all the matter and energy that space contains
What is the Milky Way?
A huge collection of stars, dust and gas
What is the sun?
The sun is the star at the Center of the solar system.
What is nuclear fusion?
The power that fuels the sun and the stars
What is the white dwarf?
The stellar core left behind after a dying star has exghausted its nuclear fuel and expelled its outer layers to form a planetary nebula.

A place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out

The sun and the planets were formed from a swirling cloud of dust and gas

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and is very hot

Venus is the hottest planet because the carbon dioxide in its atmosphere creates a green house effect and helps to hold in heat energy.

Earth is the only planet which can support our life form because the temperature in the earths surface is not too hot or cold

Mars is a rocky mountainous planet that looks

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system

Saturn, like Jupiter is made Mainly of hydrogen and helium
What are the features of Uranus?
Uranus was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel. Little was known about the planet until 1986 when voyager 2 passed close to it.
What are the features of Neptune?
Neptune was not discovered until 1846 because it is so far away from earth and too difficult to see with telescopes
What are asteroids?
Small, rocky objects that orbit the sun.
What are meteoroids?
Lumps of rock or iron that orbit the sun
What are meteor showers?
A transient rain of meteors ,such as the perseids, occurring at regular intervals and coming from a particular region in the sky.
What are comets?
Cosmic snowballs of frozen gases,rock, and dust that orbit the sun
What is a leap day ?
Additional 24hrs are built into the calendar to ensure that it stays in line with the earths movement around the sun.
What is a leap year?
When there is a leap day in the year, the year is called a leap year
What is a natural satellite?
The moon
What is lunar eclipse?
Occurs when the sun, Earth and moon align so that the moon passes into earths shadow
