Domain 1- Knowledge skills and performance
- Keep professional knowledge and skills up to date- by continual professional development courses
- Develop clinical competence and performance by engaging in work activities
- Keep up to date with changes in legal guidance and guidance of medical profession
- Improve quality of clinical performance of med practitioner
Domain 1- what does professional standard of clinical practice and patient care involve?
- Adequate clinical assessment of patient
- Provide clinical advice, investigations and medical treatment
- Make appropriate clinical referrals
- Prescribe appropriate drugs
- Provide effective med treatment
- Alleviate pain and distress
- Consult clinical colleagues/2nd opinion
- Ensue clinical treatment complies with patient care plan
- Avoid clinical relationship with family/friend
Domain 1- What does recording clinical work clearly, accurately and legibly involve?
Patient clinical info stored in med records- stored securely and in full compliance with GDPR and data protection law
Medical record must contain:
1. Relevant clinical finding
2. Clinical treatment plan and clinical care team
3. Clinical info shared with patient
4. Drugs prescribed, clinical investigations, course of med treatment
5. Full details- name, reg number, job title of HC professional, date, time of entry
Domain 2- Safety and Quality
To improve patient safety:
- Participate in clinical audit and review and follow up
- Undertake personal reflection on clinical practice
- Review patient feedback
- respond to risks to patient and clinical safety - .g if patient isn’t receiving clinical needs/equipment
- ALL TIMES- med pract. should respond to med emergency
- prioritise clinical care and needs of vulnerable adult/child
- Med pract should immediately seek clinical treatment/advice if suspected health condition - all immunisations and vaccinations should be done by their registered GP not related to them
Domain 3- Communication, partnership and teamwork
- Communicate effectively- giving all relevant info to patient in a format they can understand
- Work collaboratively w/ clinical colleagues
- Teaching, training, supporting med student/postgrad trainee- honest clinical assessment/appraisal
- Support clinical colleagues as a professional mentor w any health/personal issues they may have
Domain 3- Communication, partnership and teamwork
Continuity and coordination of clinical care
Handover- safe transfer of patients involves:
- share all relevant patient info w clinical team during patient handover
check any handover is made to subject to the patient’s best interests and specific case e.g lacking mental capacity
3. Check med pract in charge of clinical team in handover has the appropriate clinical qualifications skills and experience
- patient must be supported in caring for themselves to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing
Domain 4- maintaining trust
- Show respect for patients:
- no personal relationship w patient
- med pract should not express personal/religious/moral beliefs - Treat patients and colleagues fairly and without discrimination
- Act with honesty and integrity
- Communicating info- MD must be honest and trustworthy w clinical communications w patient
- social media- must maintain patient confidentiality - Openness and legal proceedings- MP must be honest when giving evidence to a court or fitness to practice committee
- Honesty and financial - honest w financial dealings w patients/employers/insurers
- MP must not accept/offer gift/hospitality from patient’s employer/insurer- can affect way MP treats/prescribes for patients
