Because if your mining or doing something where you can’t get quickly to wood, and you must craft e.g. a new Pickaxe to mine, than you need a craftingtable and the other materials to craft the Item

Sticks
It’s the same as the workbench, if you are mining for example and you can’t get wood fast but you need to craft something then you need a crafting table and (usually also sticks).

Pickaxe, axe, shovel, sword, Bow (and maybe a hoe) [Best in diamond or Netherite but Iron is OK.]
Sometimes you just want to go into a cave and do some mining but you don’t have the tools, or you want to farm wood but you don’t have an axe and it takes you much longer, or you want to fight but you don’t have a bow or a sword.

Food (It’s doesn’t matter what food do you take)
Because if you’re hungry in minecraft than you must eat something in minecraft.
