what do Christians believe about God?
- God is perfect and the source of all goodness
- people are created in his likeliness and should try to live in a way that will please him
- God is both powerful and loving
Augustine (354-430CE)
he taught that evil was the act of turning away from the ultimate goodness of God
what do Christians believe about Satan (evil)
- the Devil desires to work against God and is the source of all evil
- he tempts people to do evil as well
- in Genesis the devil, in a form of a serpent, temped Eve to eat from the forbidden tree
what is the problem of evil?
it allows people to doubt God’s existence and power
Explain why the ‘ problem of evil’ might lead some people to conclude that God does not exist

Explain briefly how a Christian might cope with suffering
prayer- many Christians believe that God provides healing for those who worship him.
hope- Christians hope that after death there will be a place with no suffering or sorrow.
acceptance- Jesus died on the cross to get rid of our sins, Christians who are suffering can follow his example and accept their pain and offer it to God?
Explain how the bible is used by Christians
Christians often use the bible to help them make moral decisions. It contain advise in many different forms
- specific commandment/ the 10 commandments in Exodus 20/ the two most important are ‘ Love God with all your heart, soul and strength’ and the second one is ‘ love your neighbor as yourself’
- parables/ guidance on how they should behave/ e.g the story of the good Samaritan teaches people to care for everyone even their enemies
- general moral principles/ human life is sacred/ people disregard what women should wear to church but place great importance on teachings about life
Explain one belief about what the conscience is, and where it come from
- God has given people a sense of right and wrong
* if a person is doing wrong it will probably make them feel guilty or uneasy
