Golgi Flashcards
What is the staining characteristic of LM in routine histological sections?
It is not stained with H&E.
How many curved tubules does the EM consist of?
It consists of 4-6 curved tubules.
What is the shape of the Golgi apparatus?
The Golgi is cup-shaped with a convex surface and a concave surface.
What is the cis face of the Golgi apparatus?
The cis face (immature face) is convex in shape and lies near to the rER. It is the site where small transport vesicles containing newly formed proteins from rER enter the Golgi for further processing.
What is the trans face of the Golgi apparatus?
The trans face (mature face) is concave in shape. It is the site where the modified protein is packaged and released from the Golgi in large secretory vesicles.
What are the functions of the Golgi apparatus?
1- Modifications of proteins (e.g., addition of sugars).
2- Packaging of different proteins in membrane bounded vesicles.
3- Targeting of vesicles to the right destination.
What are the formations associated with the targeting of vesicles?
• Formation of lysosomes.
• Formation of secretory granules.
• Formation of membrane proteins.
What is the role of transport vesicles in the cell?
Transport vesicles carry proteins from the rough ER to the Golgi apparatus.
Where are the sites of protein synthesizing and secretory cells?
Sites include the Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, secretory vesicles, and cell membrane.
