Golbal Flashcards
What is the biosphere?
The biosphere is the global sum of all ecosystems, where life exists.
What are the main components of the biosphere?
The main components are biotic (living organisms) and abiotic (non-living elements like air, water, and soil). or the 3 zones, Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, and Lithosphere
Name the layers of the atmosphere.
(In order if want to make it harder.)
The layers are troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and (space) exosphere.
What is the troposphere?
The troposphere is the lowest layer of the atmosphere where weather occurs, and planes fly.
What is the Stratosphere?
The stratosphere contains the ozone layer and is above the troposphere.
What is the Mesosphere?
The Mesosphere contains traces of water vapor and is above the Stratosphere.
What is the Thermosphere?
The thermosphere is characterized by high temperatures and is where the auroras occur.
How does solar energy affect Earth’s climate?
Solar energy heats the Earth’s surface, driving weather patterns and climate systems.
What role do greenhouse gases play in climate?
Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, maintaining Earth’s temperature.
What is a climate zone?
A climate zone is a region with distinct temperature and precipitation patterns.
What defines a boreal forest?
Boreal forests are characterized by coniferous trees and cold climates.
What defines Temperate forests?
Temperate forests have distinct seasons and a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees.
Describe grassland ecosystems.
Grassland ecosystems are dominated by grasses and have moderate rainfall.
How does climate change impact polar ice caps?
Climate change leads to melting ice caps, contributing to rising sea levels.
What are the consequences of rising sea levels?
Rising sea levels can cause coastal flooding and loss of habitat.
