Pentecost
Following Jesus’ ascension, the disciples afraid that they might also be put to death for being his followers. The streets of Jerusalem were filled with pilgrims who had come to the city to celebrate the festival of Pentecost. The disciples could hear many different languages being spoken outside. The holy spirit appeared to them like a wind blowing through them. They saw what appeared to be flames hovering above their heads. They found that they could speak different languages and went out into the streets to preach. Many listened to them and converted to Christianity
Changing lives
Christians today believe that the Holy Spirit changes lives (eg giving someone the strength to end their drug addiction), gives people courage (consider Martin Luther King fighting for black rights), gives them the gift of healing the sick, or the gift of tongues.
