God's Plan for the Ages Flashcards
What 3 things constitute God’s plan for the Ages?
Redeem man, reclaim kingdom, execute judgement
What does the False Kingdom of Satan attempt to do?
Challenge the authority and sovereignty of God. Every king needs subjects, Satan is no different: gain a following among men and continually tempt them.
What is a theocracy
the government or rule of God through divinely appointed rulers or delegated authority.
What is promised by God to Abraham in Gen 12
A land, a nation, a blessing
What three elements of the kingdom are foreshadowed to David in 2 Sam 7
David’s House, David’s throne, David’s kingdom
what is the significance of the noahic covenant in gen 3
reflection of god’s grace; holding back judgement: beginning of redemptive plan: holds back floodwaters of judgment until jesus could take it on the cross
Did the sacrifices of animals in the OT erase sin?
No (read Hebrews) These sacrifices served to point to the need for redemption and God’s provision of a substitutionary atonement where an innocent victim would die on behalf of the guilty.
=>ultimate atonement is in Jesus
Hebrews defines faith as
the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen
salvation in the OT
through faith in WHAT HAD BEEN REVEALED
illustration for how faith and works interact
like a two coupon ticket to heaven
what does the kingdom of God involve
God’s people, in God’s place, under God’s rule
is the kingdom present or future? (think of the 3 components of God’s kingdom and the Davidic covenant)
BOTH! today God’s ppl are believers, God’s place is the Body of Christ (church), and God’s rule is exercised through Christ and his undersheperds (church elders)
=>God’s kingdom is a present developing reality to be fully realized at the return of
Christ the King. Then the literal throne, dynasty and kingdom (Lk. 1:3233) will be
consummated and continued throughout all eternity
what will judgement involve?
a judgement of Satan and his angels, followers
why is Satan still present if Jesus won at the cross?
Judgement on Satan commenced at the cross (John 12:31) but ultimate victory happens when Jesus returns to establish tangible reign forever and throw Satan in lake of fire (Rev 20:10)
