YES all the legislation is the same - holding numbers and x2 ear tag numbers
What clinical signs are associated with listeriosis in the goat?
Remember it is associated with poor silage/ feed quality. Associated with encephalitis, septicaemia, sudden death and abortion
What diseases of goats are notifiable?
Same as sheep - eg FMD, goat pox, PDP, scrapie
Is CAE (caprine arthritis encephalitis) a notifiable disease?
NO
What clinical signs are associated with CAE?
Arthritis, lameness, encephalitis in kids, mastitis
What type of pathogen causes CAE?
Lentivirus
Caseous lymphadenitis is caused by which pathogen?
Cornyebacterium pseudotuberculosis
What types of control measured used in the control of CLA?
Testing & culling + biosecurity measures
How is CLA transmitted?
Pooled colostrum, oro-nasal, semen, infected blood
What type of mastitis is common in the goat?
Subclinical (>1x10^6 SC/ml)
What reaction is considered a positive result with the california milk test?
A gel/ slime forms to whom’s viscosity correlates to the neutrophilic count (more solid = greater neutrophils)
What agents are associated with mastitis in the goat?
Staph aureus, mannhaemia haemolytica, cornyebacterium pseudotuberculosis
Why might dehorning reduce the prevalence of mastitis in the goat?
Reduced traumatic udder injury
What are the main differentials associated with poor BCS in the goat?
Bullying, oral disease, nutritional disease, parasites
