genetic modification
the process of altering the genetic makeup of an organism
DNA

gene
a unit of heredity which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring.
pesticides
a substance used for destroying insects or other organisms harmful to cultivated plants or to animals.
yields
produce or provide (a natural, agricultural, or industrial product).
malnutrition
lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having enough to eat, not eating enough of the right things, or being unable to use the food that one does eat.
crossbreeding
produce (an animal or plant) by mating or hybridizing two different species, breeds, or varieties.

lethal
of, relating to, or causing death; deadly; fatal
bacteria
a member of a large group of unicellular microorganisms which have cell walls but lack organelles and an organized nucleus, including some that can cause disease.
fungus
any of a group of spore-producing organisms feeding on organic matter, including molds, yeast, mushrooms, and toadstools.
ingested
take (food, drink, or another substance) into the body by swallowing or absorbing it.
allergens
a substance that causes an allergic reaction.
profit driven
when a person, company or corporation is only concerned with earning money and not concerned with any harm their product might inflict upon others.
biotechnology
the exploitation of biological processes for industrial and other purposes, especially the genetic manipulation of microorganisms for the production of antibiotics, hormones, etc.
